The New Year is the perfect time to go through your wardrobe to get rid of unworn pieces and make room for those must-have items. If you’re anything like me, getting rid of clothes is hard--there are just certain pieces you can’t seem to part with! But it’s time to stop hoarding items you aren’t getting any of use of.
Here are a few tips I find helpful when cleaning out my closet.
- Make three piles--Keep, Give Away, and Maybe piles.
- For every item in the maybe pile ask yourself, “have I worn this more than once in the past year?” If the answer is no, toss it.
- If you answered yes, try to put together three different looks with the item. If you’re successful with that, it’s a keeper! It’s also a good way to get some outfit inspiration.
The fun part about cleaning out your closet is buying new pieces to refill it. When doing this it’s important to keep in mind a few must-have pieces that every wardrobe should have.
A Classy Dress
Whether it’s a classic LBD or something with fun details, every wardrobe should have a classy dress. They’re perfect for work and date nights! This dress is especially my favorite with the pearl details. I mean, what girl doesn’t love some pearls?!
Cozy Sweater
This is most definitely a must-have, especially during the colder weather. Cozy sweaters are great for running errands or if you’re a homebody, you can lounge around in them all day. They’re also a perfect item to layer.
Classic Tee
You can never go wrong with a classic tee. Whether you wanted to throw it on with a pair of jeans or style it with some dress pants it’s a must-have everyday item.
Everyday Denim
This is a no brainer must-have, but invest your money in a pair of jeans you’ll wear a lot! You know, the ones that are the perfect fit.
Statement Jacket
You need a statement jacket in your wardrobe for those nights you want to get a little wild with your outfit.
